The chariotry division was something that came about more than halfway though the Pharaonic period with the Egyptians borrowing from the Hyksos and making chariots of their own.Īll of this applicable to the New Kingdom onwards, earlier periods would not have had standing professional militaries, and those earlier armies would have been far less organised and ragtag in nature.
This would have been the case for all the divisions. Regiments tended to be named after the pantheon of gods, so you'd have a Ra regiment, or a Horus regiment, or a Khepri regiment for example. Regarding regiments and the general composition of their armies, we have evidence of chariotry, infantry and navy divisions commanded by generals, and regiments commanded by lower ranking military officers.
